Why Excel is still the safest first stop

Many bookkeepers do not want to import anything into QuickBooks on the first pass. They want a spreadsheet they can sort, filter, compare to the statement, and hand off for review.

What the spreadsheet should contain

The practical output is a CSV that opens in Excel and keeps transaction rows readable. Date, Description, and Amount are the baseline. Balance, page, or review flags can help during cleanup when they are available.

  • Date
  • Description
  • Amount
  • Optional review columns such as Balance or Page

Review before downstream use

Even a good extraction can still pull in balance lines, wrapped descriptions, or wrong amount signs. Review before import matters, especially if the next step is reconciliation, accountant handoff, or QuickBooks prep.

No bank login required

DocuRows works from uploaded files rather than connected bank credentials. Original PDFs work best, clear scans or photos can work if readable, and redacted files are fine when transaction rows stay visible.

Review before import. Balance can help with checking the extraction, but users should still confirm which columns belong in their final accounting import file.

FAQ

Can I open the output directly in Excel?

Yes. The current output is a CSV that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, and similar spreadsheet tools.

Is this the same as a QuickBooks CSV?

Not exactly. Excel is the broader review-first workflow. A QuickBooks CSV is a narrower import shape that usually strips the file down to transaction fields.

Can I test with a redacted statement?

Yes. Redacted files are fine as long as dates, descriptions, amounts, and transaction rows remain readable.
